Given,

  • Sachin reaches his destination on time By travelling at 80 km/h
  • He covered two-third the total distance in one-third of the total time

To find,

Speed he should maintain for the remaining distance to reach his destination on time

Solution,

Let the total time it takes for him for the journey is t .

Total distance of the journey be d.

We have the relation, 80 = \frac{d}{t} -------eq(1)

Distance left after \frac{1}{3} of time = d - \frac{2}{3}d = \frac{1}{3}d

Time remaining = t - \frac{1}{3}t = \frac{2}{3}t

Speed required = Distance remaining/ time remaining

                           = \frac{\frac{1}{3}d }{\frac{2}{3}t } \\= \frac{d}{2t}

From eq(1), Speed required = 40m/s

Therefore, he should maintain a speed of 40m/s reach his destination on time.
