CH4 :-
• the valency of carbon is 2 but carbon forms compound when its electron is in the excited state
• when in excited state carbon shows valency 4
• the hybridization of CH4 is sp3
• as it is sp3 so the structure of CH4 would be tetrahedral. Because the bonds are at an angle of 109 degree 28 mins which is called tetrahedral angle.

Let's calculate the hybridization of CH4.

There are 4 Valence electrons in C and there are 4 atoms of H
Now hybridization = 4 + 4/2 = 8/2 = 4

So it's hybridization will be sp3.

CH4 doesn't have any lone pair too.So if we check the table the shape or the molecular geometry of CH4 is tetrahedral.
Another example of this type of structure is NH4
