Common salt can be separated from wheat husk by dissolving the mixture in water followed by filtration.

When the mixture is added to water, common salt being soluble dissolves in it completely whereas wheat husk being insoluble remains as a residue at the bottom of the container.

The common salt forms a clear solution with water where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This has to be separated from the residues of wheat husk and so filtration is performed.

After filtration, the filtrate is the salt solution whereas the wheat husk remains as a residue on the filter.
