So,

x \times y = x -  \frac{30x}{100}

....... eq 1

Now , from eq. 1 we get

y =  \frac{100x - 30x}{100x}

On solving we get

y =  \frac{7}{10}  =  0.7

So, the no. must be multiplied with 0.7 to reduce it by 30% ....

Let the number be X

=Decrease = 30%of x

= 30/100*x = 30x/100

Decreased value = ( x-30x/100)

= 70/100=7/10 Ans.
