Hey there!

Sheena here!

So what you mean by percentage?

Well, Percentage means something out of 100

You may heard about it when you say your percentage of your marks out of some number.

So an easy way to calculate the percentage of anything

Given number/original number * 100

Here the given number varies on the way the question is.

If the question is something like:

A student score 9 out of 10 in an exam what is his percentage?

=> Then 9 is the given number where the 'out of' number should be placed in the place of original number.

So coming to your question >>>

By what percent is 60 increase to be 80?

Here there are two numbers which are:

60 and 80

They are asking us by what percent 60 became 80.

So for that what find out how much more does 60 require to become 80.

so, 80-60

= 20

So 60 increased by 20 to be 80

Now we have to convert this 20 to percentage

for that we need the original number

So the original number will be 60 itself. Remember here 80 can't be because 80 became when 60 was increased by 20.

So now put them to the formula I said before

Percentage = Given number/ Original number * 100

= 20/60*100
= 33.33%

So the number 60 was increased by 33.33% to be 80.

Hope this helps!
