Abstract
Abstract The upper superficial layer of the earth crust is known as soil. It is the mixture of air, water, minerals and organic components. This life approving substance is an important part of biosphere which bears different forms of flora and fauna. Development of soil is apparently dependent on several factors like climate, topography, organisms, parent material time etc. Influence of all the factors in varied magnitude helps develop different kind of soil with contrasting physical and chemical feature. The physical property includes texture, structure, density, porosity, permeability and colour, on the other hand presence of organic matter, inorganic matter, crystalloids, colloids, acid and base is considered as chemical property of soil. The terra is covered with different types and category of soils conceived of varying impress of natural phenomena. However six major soil types are identified in India which is the Alluvial Soils, Black Soils, Red Soils, Desert Soils, Laterite Soils and Mountain Soils. Dissimilar physiographic, climatic and geological feature is responsible for this heterogeneous soil distribution in India. This diversity of earth has influenced the nation and its culture in distinctive way. India known for being an agricultural country shows a wide array of cultivation of different types of crops. This range is the result of soil differences among various regions and provinces which again dominates the realm of culture and lifestyle. Indian soil type is intertwined with India’s tradition. A major crop grown in a certain area becomes the staple food for the local people of that part and soil becomes one with the demography. Thus a study of the nature and distribution of Indian Soil type is a portal to the interior of Indian household and culture.
