Plains of grass (or) greenlands are characterized as lands dominated by grasses rather than large shrubs or trees.There are two main divisions of grasslands:

1. tropical grasslands, called savannas.

2. temperate grasslands.

The areas known as Grasslands are where the vegetation is more populated by grasses or Poaceae; however, sedge and rush groups are can also available along with a variable quantity of legumes,  clover, and other herbs.

Grasslands occur naturally on most of the continents except Antarctica.
