Answer:

The correct answer is artificial.

Explanation:

  • Nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the atmosphere, making up nearly 79% of the total atmospheric composition.
  • Nitrogen forms a major component of amino acids which are the building blocks of a cell.
  • However, gaseous nitrogen cannot be incorporated in living tissues.
  • Hence, nitrogen has to be converted to utilisable organic forms in the form of nitrates.
  • This process of conversion of atmospheric gaseous nitrogen into utilisable organic nitrates is know as nitrogen fixation.
  • Methods of nitrogen fixation:-

        1) Atmospheric- During lightning, the atmospheric nitrogen is fixed to nitrates in the soil by breaking the bonds in the molecules of nitrogen and precipitating as nitrates.

       2) Industrial- The Haber's process involves production of ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen at high temperature and pressure using iron as the catalyst and molybdenum as the promoter.

       3) Biological- The root nodules of leguminous plants contain symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria like Rhizobium, Azotobacter. They convert atmospheric nitrogen to nitrites. It is then converted to nitrates by nitrifying bacteria in the soil like Clostridium.

Hence, all the options are methods to fix nitrogen because the industrial method is an artificial man-made method, but if you have to choose one among these, the correct option shall be Artificial.
