The answer is option (c) 2,250 km

GIVEN

Two trains leave Jalandhar for Delhi at

8:00 am and 10 : 30 am, respectively

and travel at 150 km/h and 180 km/h,

respectively.

TO FIND

How many kilometres from Jalandhar will the two trains meet?

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

Speed of first train = 150 km/hr

Time at which the first train leaves = 8 am

Time at which the second train leaves = 10:30 am

Time taken by the second train to start its journey = After 2.5 hours.

Distance travelled by first train in 2.5 hours = 150 × 2.5 = 375 km

Now,

The second train is travelling in the same direction. So the relative speed of second train = 180 - 150 = 30km/hr

Time taken by second train to cover the distance of 375 km with a relative speed of 30km/hr = 375/30

= 12.5 hrs

Therefore,

The second train will meet the first train after 12.5 hours

Distance covered in 12.5 hours = 12.5 × 180 = 2,250 km

Hence, The answer is option (c) 2,250 km
