The fungus is a filamentous thread-like eukaryotic organism. The cell wall is composed of chitin which is a polysaccharide. There is no chlorophyll pigment or chloroplast. They cannot perform photosynthesis and are heterotrophic or saprophytic. The cell structure forms mycelium which is composed of the hyphae which spread and help in attachment to the substratum.
