Given info : A certain tractor is said to be capable of pulling with a steady force of 18kN while moving at a velocity of 8.0m/s.

To find : how much power in kilowatts and in horsepower is the tractor developing under above conditions...

solution : power = force × speed

here force = 18 kN and speed = 8 m/s

so, power = 8 kN × 8 m/s

= 64kNm/s

= 64kW

therefore the power in kilowatts is 64 kW .

we know, 1 horsepower = 746 watt

so, power in horsepower = (64kW/746W)hp

= (64000/746) hp

= 85.8 hp

Therefore the power in horsepower is 85.8 hp.
