An object is placed at a distance of 60 cm in front of a spherical
mirror. Its image is formed at a distance of 20 cm in front of the
mirror. Hence answer the following: -
i) Calculate the focal length of the mirror ( with correct +/- sign)
ii) Calculate the magnification (with correct +/- sign).

Answer:

here , u=-60cm ,since,the object is front of spherical mirror

v=-20cm

by spherical mirror formula

1/v+1/u=1/f

1/-20+1/-60=1/f

-3-1/60=1/f,taking lcm

-4/60=1/f

-1/15=1/f

or,f=-15

magnification, m=-v/u

=-20/60=-1/3
