Rules for direct speech:-

• The words spoken by the speaker must always be enclosed within double inverted commas (" ").
• The direct speech must be separated by the reporting verb using a comma (,).
• The first letter under double inverted commas must always be capital.

Rule for indirect speech:-

• In indirect speech the inverted commas must be removed.
• The comma separating the reporting verb and direct speech must be removed.
• The verb of the reporting verb must not be changed.
• The indirect speech must be introduced by some connectors like:- that, whether, what, etc.
• All kinds of sentences must be converted into affirmative sentence.
