Answer :

As I sit by my bed playing with my pet pug , I suddenly get a shake from my dog as it pats my knee and I fall down . When I fall , I suddenly get a memory , the memory of me in an earthquake stricken area sitting silently by a fallen tree . As I go back into reverie , I see myself sitting on the usual place I sit , which is my balcony . I was having a cup of coffee in my hand and I was looking at a beautiful cuckoo which was stting on my window sill . I was thinking over whether I should give anything for it to eat or not , when suddenly the ground below me shook . It was a light shake , but I felt the blood rushing out of my face . I became terribly scared for no particular reason and I was surprised at that , since I was usually a calm and collected person . My bond with Earth was very strong and due to that I felt that something bad was about to happen . I didn't have any superstitions about harbingers of bad news , but this time when I saw a raven sitting by my window instead of that cuckoo , I felt scared , which was odd since I admire all birds ( including ravens ) . Since panic started to build up in my chest I turned the other side around and looked everywhere but no at the raven. I felt it's eyes on my back and just as I turned to look back at it , I got another shake ,this time a bit more stronger than the last one making me fall flat on my back . I got severe back pain and just as I was about to shout for help from the neighbours since both of my parents are rarely at home , I heard someone ring the doorbell . I thought that if I sit here without opening the door , whoever has come will eventually go . But that didn't happen and the doorbell kept on ringing , this gave me a severe headache and I went to open the door all the while feeling a terrible pain in my back . When I opened the door , I saw my neighbor's daughter Marie staring at me with fear fresh in her eyes . I was shocked to see this because she unlike me seldom felt panic and was a happy go lucky girl . I gritted my teeth to control my pain and asked her what was the matter . She told me that our area is going to get an earthquake and if we dont go away from our house then we all will perish and die . I felt great panic building up again in my chest , but I tried to control it since if I show my fear to Marie then , she who is already scared will start to cry and I wont have time to soothe her . We both ran , caught a bus and went to the city nearby . Just as we were about to get down from the bus , the bus started to shake terribly and at last with all the efforts to stop the oncoming fall from the driver in vain , we felt the bus turn over . We all fell and I felt my back start to ache again . I was fine but I was scared about Marie's wellbeing who was sitting in the back seat with her friend Salini . I tried to get up but I couldn't , I felt crying , which was pretty rare for me but I stopped my tears from falling and got up to see if or not Marie was ok . I saw her waving from behind and a layer of grease and dirt covering her face . Tears were falling from her eyes . 9I ran towards her all the while feeling the pain in my back increase . Then I felt myself fall unconscious when I hit the headboard of the bus . I woke up to see my grandparents sitting by my side . They informed me that I had a broken back and a broken rib along with a deep head injury . But I couldn't care less about me when I thought about my pet labrador's wellbeing . I had left it at my house when I ran with Marie . I didn't remember anything about it . This was the only time silent tears started to flow from my eyes . My grandparents were having a snack in the hospital cafeteria so , they couldn't see me cry . I felt the tears stain the while of my shirt and soon the silent tears turned into weak sobs . The nurse saw me and asked what was the matter . She must have thought I was crying due to pain since she had a sedative in her hand . But before she could sedate me I asked her about , my dog - my lovely little friend and companion , the only one who ever was with me . She started to laugh and I could tell that she felt I was crazy for crying over a dog . But for me it was not only a dog , it was my best friend and the only boat during my storms . I asked her the same again this time a little bit more seriously so that she would understand my sentiments . When she saw that I wasn't joking , she immediately stopped laughing and told me that it was safe and sound in a veterinary hospital . It seems it had got some slight injuries but other than that it was all fine . Hearing that made me relax and finally let a sigh of relief . Though this was a very weak earthquake and we reached an open ground after I fell unconscious , it was still a nightmare to me . The rib I broke that day is weak even upto this day , being a constant reminder of that horrific incident .
