Explanation:

Firstly, Pepsin needs an acidic medium to work i.e . digest proteins . The acidic medium is provided by HYROCHLORIC ACID .

Secondly, when food enters small instine, liver secrets one of its digestive juice called BILE JUICE which makes food alkaline i.e. neutral ( bother acidic nor basic in nature ) .
