An external voltage which decreases the potential barrier is said to act in the Forward Bias.

Explanation:

In Forward Bias condition the electron rich "N-type" material is connected with "-ve terminal" and the "P-type" terminal is connected with "+ve terminal" across the diode.

As the diode has a depletion layer after some recombination(Holes of P type recombinates with electrons of N type material) the depeltion layer vanishes and current start flowing normally in the diode.
