She answered that she found the jewel on the floor and from floor she took it.Ramayya, after hearing this wanted to deliver the jewel to the village magistrate. If the police searched their house, it would be an embarrassment. It was well known by Ramayya’s wife that the jewel belonged to her neighbour’s daughter. Yet she did not tell about it to anyone. The maid of the neighbour was prime suspect. The police searched maid’s hut, but not able to find necklace. Ramayya’s wife kept the stud in her box. Ramayya’s wife got scared. Ramayya’s wife got a severe fever after that and was restricted to her to bed. Ramayya and his wife spent the rest of their life in the fear of being caught.
