(c) Following data pertain to a centrifugal compressor:
Pressure of air at inlet = 1 bar
Temperature of air at inlet = 320 K
Rotational speed of the impeller = 15000 rpm
Isentropic efficiency = 80 %
Tip diameter of the impeller = 50 cm
Slip factor = 0.8
Calculate:
(i) Work done per kg of air
(ii) Temperature and pressure of air leaving the compressor
Assume that the velocities of air at inlet and exit of the compressor are the same. For air, C=
1.005 kJ/kg K, C= 0.718 kJ/kg K and R=0.287 kJ/kg K.
