C) 1. History is the study of changing patterns in society. Over time,history has evolved and developed. Once it revolved around the life of powerful people. Now ,history has become the study of common people,their lives and also about new ideas.It has become a study of how societies and economies change with time.

2. Indian historians did not want to call the British rule in India a modern period because Indians at that time were not free. They were not considered equal by the British. The Indian economy was also very backward at that time.

3. Preserved documents from village tahsildar's office, the collectorate, the commissioner's office, the provincial secretariats and the lawcourts – are also useful. These added to the records preserved in archives and museums are an important source material for history writing.

4. The modern period in India is associated with the establishment of British colonial rule and the fight we put up against it. It also cover socio-cultural change that came about in India under the influence of the British.

D)1. Periodization is the process of categorizing the past into discrete, quantified named blocks of time in order to facilitate the study and analysis of history. This results in descriptive abstractions that provide convenient terms for periods of time with relatively stable characteristics.

2. Interpretations differ in History because: ... Since , they deal with human past, society and refer to historical questions that refer us back to notions of time, historians may find difficult to get fixed answers to historical events.

3. The system of surveying became general under the colonial rule because British considered that a nation had to be accurately known before it could be effectively regulated. Detailed surveys were conducted out by the British officials to map the entire land.

4.The british conduct so many surveys in india because they wanted to be famous all over the india and as well as the whole world by the future people . They conducted surveys in order to check their spread of business all over the india. They neeed all the future people to know about their east india company.
