The difference between Temperate Deciduous Forests and Temperate Grasslands are as follows:
TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FORESTS
- LOCATION: They are found within the temperate latitudes. These latitude lines run east to west on the map, forming invisible belts that circle the globe. They can be found in northeast Asia, western Europe, etc.
- CLIMATE: Temperate climates experience all four seasons. Temperatures can range from -1°C to -30°C in the winter and 27°C to 32C in the summer.
- VEGETATION: Due to the seasonal nature of temperate deciduous forests, many of the plants in this region are perennial, which means they grow and flower only in summer. Plants like Honeysuckle, Buckthorn, Bedstraw, Mustard flowers, etc.
- ANIMALS: There is a huge diversity of animal life, due to forests changing seasons animals adapt themselves, migrate or hibernate during winters. A few examples of animals are Broad-winged Hawks, Snowy Owls, White-tailed Deer, Racoons, etc.
- USEFULNESS: They are extremely important ecologically. It provides a habitat for many animals including migrating birds from Tundra. They help reduce erosion from the trees stabilizing the soil.
TEMPERATE GRASSLAND
- LOCATION: They are found between 40°and 60° north or south of the equator. They are found in large land masses or continents, two major areas are the prairies of North America and the steppe that mount Europe and Asia.
- CLIMATE: They have cold winters and warm summers with some rain.
- VEGETATION: They contain short grasses with few trees, more crops. Rainfall determines plants density.
- ANIMALS: Some of the animals are Bison, Swift Fox, Mongolian Gazelle, etc.
- USEFULNESS: It helps in the growth of many plantations and crops due to its modest climate.
