A chemical change is one that cannot be recovered back just by reversing the conditions in which the product was made..
Example is when you burn a piece of paper you can't reverse the condition that is you can't cool the ash to form paper again...
Using the same analysis mentioned above you could arrive at a conclusion that burning a magnesium ribbon is a chemical change... Since cooling a burnt magnesium. Ribbon won't give you the substance back...
