Answer:
....They never cared for their father's advice even. The old man felt much pain and worried about them.
Years rolled by and the old farmer fell seriously ill. His end looked near. Even on his dying bed, he was much worried about his sons. He thought hard and atlast hit upon a plan to give them a practical lesson.
He called all the four sons and said, "My end is near. Before leaving this world, I want to give you something. " The sons felt very eager to know what their father was going to give them. They decided to obey him at last.
The old man asked his sons to bring a bundle of thin sticks tied together. The sons brought a bundle of thin sticks. The dying father asked to to try their strength on the bundle turn by turn. None of them could break the bundle.
Now the old man asked them to untie the bundle. Even the youngest son was able to break the sticks of the bundle one by one. The old farmer now said, "Dear sons learn a lesson from the sticks. When they were united, none of you could break them. But when they are seperated, even the weakest of you had broken them. In like manner, if you remain quarrelling, people will ruin you. But if you are united, you will be strong enough and nobody shall be able to hame you,"
This practical advice had the desired effect. It acted as an eye opener to the four brothers and they never quarelled again. The old farmer could die in piece.
