it is a statutory organisation which was constituted in September 1974 under the water act.it was also entrusted with the powers and functions under the air act ,1981. the CPCB is led by it's chairman who is nominated by the central Government .As of May 2018 Shri . S.P Singh Parihar is the chairman of the CPCB .
