Let the cost price of each note books be ₹x.

A/q,

CP of 12 n. b. = ₹ 12x

SP of 12 n. b. = CP of 16 n. b. = ₹ 16x

Thus, CP = ₹ 12x and SP = ₹ 16x

Since SP > CP, gain

Gain = SP – CP

= ₹ ( 16x – 12x)

= ₹ 4x

 gain\% = ( \frac{gain \times 100}{cp} )\% \\ \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = ( \frac{4x \times 100}{12x} )\% \\ \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = 33 \frac{1}{3} \%
