GIVEN

• Riya's aunt is 3 times Riya's age.

• Ten years ago, she was 7 times Riya's age.

TO DETERMINE

(i) their present age.

(ii) their age after 5 years.

EVALUATION

Let present age of Riya = x years

Now it is given that Riya's aunt is 3 times Riya's age.

So present age of Riya's aunt = 3x years

Now 10 years ago -

Age of Riya was = x - 10 years

Age of Riya's aunt = 3x - 10 years

So by the given condition

$\sf{3x - 10 = 7(x - 10)}$

$\sf{ \implies \: 3x - 10 = 7x -70}$

$\sf{ \implies \: - 4x = - 60}$

$\sf{ \implies \: x = 15}$

(i) Present age of Riya = 15 years

Present age of Riya's aunt = 45 years

(ii) After 5 years -

Age of Riya will be = ( 15 + 5 ) = 20 years

Age of Riya's aunt will be = ( 45 + 5 ) = 50 years
