Answer:

The valence electron present within silicon is 8, and in order to have a complete octate, it either needs to lose or gain four electrons. Thus, the valency of Silicon with an atomic number of 14 is 4.

Atomic number of Silicon = 14.

Electron distribution = (2,8,4)

Valency = +4.

The valence electron present in Sodium is 1 in the outermost shell. It can't gain 7 more electrons from other elements due to having metallic character. So, it looses it's electron from the outermost shell. Thus, the valency of Sodium with an atomic number of 11 is 1.

Atomic number of Sodium = 11.

Electron distribution = (2,8,1)

Valency = +1.
