Answer:

Mean means Average

Now it is given

(7+5+8+p+11)5= 8

i.e. 31+p/5=8

i.e p= 40-31

i.e p = 9

VERIFICATION:-

7+5+8+9+11=40

and 40/5 = 8

Hence p = 9

MEDIAN:-

No. in increasing order=5,7,8,9,11

no. of observation = 5 = odd

By formula

median = (n+1)/2 th obv

= 5+1/2 = 3rd obv

Therefore the median is 3rd observation i.e. 8.

Answer:

mean = 8

median =

p = 9

Step-by-step explanation:

median, if no:of terms is odd , is the middlemost value of the data given

median , if no:of terms is even , is average of the two middle most terms of the data

mean = \frac{sum.of.data}{no:of . units .in.the.data} \\\\mean = \frac{7+5+8+p+11}{5} = 8  (given)\\\\ = 31+p = 5*8\\    p = 40-31 = 9\\\\similarly,\\median = \frac{8+p}{2}\\\\median = \frac{8+9}{2} =   17/2 = 8.5
