Given  : The power, P (watts), of a car engine is proportional to the square of its speed, s (m/s).

When s 45, P = 2180

To Find : the power when the speed is 35 m/s

Solution:

The power, P (watts), of a car engine is proportional to the square of its speed, s (m/s).

=> P  ∝  s²

=> P = ks²

s 45, P = 2180

=> 2180 = k (45)²

=> k = 2180/(45)²

power when the speed is 35 m/s

=> P  = k (35)²

=> P =  (2180/(45)²) (35)²

=> P = 2180 (  7/9)²

=> P = 1,318.765  W
