2. Insectivorous plants include the Venus flytrap, several types of pitcher plants, butterworts, sundews, bladderworts, the waterwheel plant, brocchinia and many members of the Bromeliaceae.

3. The epidermis of leaves has small openings called stomata through which gas exchange. These are the small openings present on the inner surface of the leaves. They are bounded by the two guard cells. Stomata can be opened or closed depending on the turgidity of guard cells.

4. Cactus is a plant in which photosynthesis occurs in stem other than leaves.

5 .There are two modes of nutrition:

Autotrophic – Plants exhibit autotrophic nutrition and are called as a primary producer. Plants synthesis their food by using light, carbon dioxide and water.

Heterotrophic – Both animals and human beings are called heterotrophs, as they depend on plants for their food.

6. Chlorophylls. The chlorophylls, a and b, are the pigments of photosynthesis. They are produced in chloroplasts in the photosynthetic tissues of the leaf. The chlorophyll molecules are very water repelling, partly because of the long phytol tail in the molecule.

7. Nitrate is the form of nitrogen most used by plants for growth and development. Nitrate is the form that can most easily be lost to groundwater. Ammonium taken in by plants is used directly in proteins. This form is not lost as easily from the soil.
