Given to find the oxidation state of the compound :-
SOLUTION :-
As we know that,
Oxidation number of Hydrogen is +1 Oxidation number of Oxygen is -2
So,
Let the oxidation number of Carbon is x
There are 12 atoms of Carbon = 12x There are 22 atoms of Hydrogen= 22(1)
There are 11 atoms of Oxygen = 11(-2) Also we know that ,
Sum of oxidation state of the compound should be 0
So, 12x + 22(1) + 11(-2) = 0
12x +22-22 =0
12x +0 =0
12x =0
x = 0
So, the oxidation state of the Carbon in the compound is 0
