2C2H6 + _O2 → 2CO2 + 3H2O

Oh no! We have SEVEN atoms of oxygen on one side but how will that balance on the other…..

Well, what we do is multiply all coefficients by 2 (except for O2).

4C2H6 + _O2 → 4CO2 + 6H2O

Now we can balance!

Answer: C2H6 + 7O2 → 4CO2 + 6H2O
