"C3 plants have an additional process known as photorespiration which is a carbon dioxide consuming process occurring in them which happens during photosynthesis. In C4 plants, they have a special cycle known as a C4 cycle which involves three cell organelles, chloroplast, peroxisomes and mitochondria which helps the plant to avoid the process of photorespiration.

This is beneficial to the plant as photorespiration is an energy consuming process. Therefore, the CO2 which is not used up is used to generate plant sugars through photosynthesis. Thus, they have a higher net photosynthetic rate.
