  • When C₆H₅-CH=CH₂ (2- phenyl ethene) reacts with HBr in the presence of peroxides then C₆H₅CH₂CH₂Br (1-bromo 2-phenyl ethane) will be formed.
  • Addition of HBr in the presence of peroxides yields anti Markovnikov's product as a major product.
  • Mechanism initiated by the homolytic cleavage of peroxides.
  • Then bromine free radical is formed which attacks into the ethene and yields anti Markovnikov's product.
