When two aldehydes are treated in presence of dil.NaOH, they get added to form a adduct. This is called aldol condensation reaction.

When benzaldehyde (C6H5-CHO) is treated with propanal (CH3-CH2-CHO) in presence of dil.NaOH, an aldol condensation product C6H5-CH(OH)-CH(CH3)-CHO is formed.
