Phenol is formed

Explanation:

By boiling a weakly acidic aqueous solution of diazonium chloride, we can get phenol. Diluted sulphuric acid acts as a catalyst to this reaction.

C6H5N2Cl is the chemical formula of diazonium chloride. Since it is aqueous, the equations shows H2O. C6H5OH is the chemical formula of phenol. Hydrochloric acid and Nitrogen gas is also formed as by products during the reaction. Reaction takes place at room temperature.

C6H5N2Cl + H2O -----dilute H2SO4--------> C6H5OH + HCl + N2
