When Benzenediazonium chloride ( C_{6}H_{5}N_{2}Cl ) is reacted with Copper(I) cyanide ( CuCN ) in the presence of Hydrogen cyanide ( HCN ) , Benzonitrile ( C_{6}H_{5}CN ) is formed .

    C_{6}H_{5}N_{2}Cl + CuCN / HCN  →  C_{6}H_{5}CN

  • Benzonitrile is a colorless liquid . It has a sweet almond odour .
  • Benzonitrile is used as a solvent .
  • Benzenediazonium chloride is a colourless solid . It is soluble in polar solvents .
