The benzene ring in aniline is electron withdrawing in nature. It withdraws the lone pair of electrons of the nitrogen and hence, is less basic. The basic strength (of some compounds) is determined by the capacity of the compound to donate the electron pair. In methylamine, the methyl group attached is an electron donating group. It increases the electron density on the nitrogen atom. This makes the nitrogen to donate the electron more easily in methyl amine than in aniline.
Hence, aniline is less basic than methyl amine.
