Ca + H₂O ⟶ Ca(OH)₂ + H₂

Balanced chemical equation : Ca + 2H₂O ⟶ Ca(OH)₂ + H₂

When calcium is dropped in water, formation of bubbles takes place around it. These bubbles are of hydrogen gas which is produced as a by-product during this reaction. Also, there is a formation of white precipitate of calcium hydroxide (main product).
