The law of conservation of mass is a fundamental law and is applicable everywhere.. Here as well the law is valid as the mass of reactants and mass of the products will be the same. But since the reaction is carried out in an open container, CO2 which is one of the products of the reaction will leave the vessel and hence the calculated mass will not be the same as reactants
