Calcium Hydroxide which is commonly called as the Slaked lime in the language of the chemistry. It is not used for the Removal of permanent hardness of water.

Reason ⇒ Permanent hardness of the water is due to the presence of the sulfates and chlorides of Calcium and Magnesium. Due to Presence of Calcium and Magnesium salts. As a result of which Calcium ions cannot displaced by the Calcium hydroxide thus Hardness is not removed.

Permanent hardness can be Removed by Other methods such as, Adding Sodium Hexa Meta Phosphate will easily removes the Water.

Physical methods such as Boiling cant remove the Permanent hardness of water.

Hope it helps.
