CaO+H2O=Ca(OH)2

IT IS A BASE...THE PRODUCT IS SLAKED LIME {Ca(OH)2}..

Calcium oxide dissolves in water to form calcium hydroxide (can(oh)2) which is purely a basic substance in nature.

Hence it forms base when reacts with water.
