calcium has outermost configuration of ns2 this meams it have 2 electrons in its valence shell.
and before ns2 there is a fully filled p subshell
so whn we will remove 2 electrons and will try to remove the 3rd electron then there will be huge energy reqd bcoz 2 electrons of outer shell are removed and now the p subshell is fully filled which is very stable so there will be huge energy requirement in removing 3rd electron
