Given :- Calculate 3rd decile and 70th percentile for the following data:

841, 289, 325, 225,784,729, 625,400,324,169 .

Solution :-

arranging data in ascending order we get,

→ 169, 225, 289, 324, 325, 400, 625, 729, 784, 841 .

  • N = 10 terms

now,

→ Di = {(N + 1) * i} / 10

→ D3 = {(10 + 1) * 3} / 10

→ D3 = 11 * 3/10

→ D3 = 3.3 th term

→ D3 = 3rd term + 0.3(4th term - 3rd term)

→ D3 = 289 + 0.3(324 - 289)

→ D3 = 289 + 0.3 * 35

→ D3 = 289 + 10.5

→ D3 = 299.5

now, 70th percentile :-

→ k = 70/100 = 0.7

so,

→ p(70) = 0.7 * 10 = 7th term = 625 (Ans.)
