Answer:

How to calculate error of a ratio of two data with errors?

Suppose I need to calculate A =(B/C),

where B= 1.00+- 0.33

and C= 1.50+- 0.43

How do I calculate the error of A? as in, A=0.66+- ?

Any idea if I can do this in excel or any other software?

Thank you in advance!

So here is how I finally did it.

A = B/C

I will use terms

dA for error value of A

dB for error value of B

dC for error value of C

dA = sqrt ( (dB/B)2 + (dC/C)2 ) * A

for the example in my question, I calculate A = (1.0/1.5) = 0.67

dA = sqrt (( 0.33/1.00)2 +(0.43/1.50)2 ) * 0.67 = 0.29

Therefore, A = 0.67 +- 0.29
