To find:

Apparent weight of an object ?

Calculation:

Let us assume that mass of object placed on lift is "m".

Now, let's concentrate on the forces acting on the object while lift is stationary.

  • Gravitational force downwards.

  • Normal reaction (which signifies it's apparent weight).

So, according to FBD of lift , we can say:

 \sf \:  \therefore \: N  = mg - ma

  • For stationary lift, a = 0 m/s².

 \sf \implies\: N  = mg - m(0)

 \sf \implies\: N  = mg

 \sf \implies\:  W_{apparent}  = mg

So, the apparent weight is equal to the actual weight of the object in a stationary lift.
