average kinetic energy is given by,

K.E=\frac{3}{2}nRT

where n is number of mole of substance, R is universal gas constant and T is temperature in Kelvin.

here, weight of methane = 8g

molecular weight of methane = 16g/mol

so, number of mole of methane,n = 8/16 = 0.5

Temperature, T = 27°C = 27 + 273 = 300K

universal gas constant , R = 25/3 J/mol.K

now, average kinetic energy = 3/2 × 0.5 × 25/3 × 300

= 3/2 × 0.5 × 25 × 100

= 3/2 × 25 × 50

= 3 × 25 × 25

= 1875 J

hence, average kinetic energy is 1875 J
