Let the no. of moles of both be n.

Mass of one mole of H2 = 2g.

Mass of one mole of CH4 = (12×1)+(4×1) = 16g

Mass of n moles of H2 = (n)2g

Mass of n moles of CH4 = (n)16g

Total no. Of moles n+n = 2n

Total mass 16n+2n = (16+2)n

= 18n grams

Average mass = total mass /total moles taken

= 18n/2n

= 9 grams
