We have to calculate bond order of Lithium molecule.

We know that formula of Lithium molecule is

Li_2

Total number of electrons in a molecule are 6

Now,

Now MOT configuration of molecule will be,

 \sigma1s {}^{2} ,  \sigma {}^{*} 1s {}^{2}  ,  \sigma2s {}^{2}

So,

no. of electrons in bonding molecular orbital = 4

i.e.

N_b=4

And

no. of electrons in antibonding molecular orbital = 2

i.e.

N_a=2

Now ,

BOND \: ORDER=\dfrac{N_b-N_a}{2} \\ =\frac{4-2}{2} \\ \frac{2}{2} \\ = 1

So,
