Given:

Heat transferred (q) = 400 KJ

Work done (w) = 90 KJ

To find:

The change in internal energy (ΔU).

Solution:

In an isobaric process the pressure remains constant throughout the process and the volume or temperature changes. In an isobaric process change in volume is directly proportional to change in temperature.

As we know that according to the first law of thermodynamics:

ΔU = q - w

Putting the values, we get:

ΔU = 400 KJ - 90 KJ

ΔU = 310 KJ

Therefore the change in internal energy is 310 KJ.
