Explanation:

taken in the above circuit is a parallel and series circuit

in the above diagram it shows how after crossing the first resistor the current flows in 2 ways so thus they are parallel and then they meet again at a point passing through the 1 ohm resistor

so in Calculation,

1 ohm + (1/2 ohm + 1/1 ohm) + 1 ohm

= 1ohm + 1.5 ohm + 1 ohm

= 3.5 ohm
